The World’s Greatest Shave

by | Mar 14, 2014 | Blog, Cancer Awareness, Fundraising

Have you noticed coloured hair and shaved heads increasing in number lately? Get ready to see more because it’s that time of year again where thousands of people take part in The World’s Greatest Shave to raise vital funds for blood cancer. I was honoured to take part for the first time this morning and had a great time.

The event I attended was Palazzo Versace’s World’s Greatest Shave Morning Tea, where local residents and business operators came together to raise much needed funds and awareness for the Leukemia Foundation. So far they have raised over $11,000 and counting! Amongst those who took part were my good friend and colleague Dr Marcelo Nascimento from Pindara Private Hospital, members of the Titans (AFL) Team and the Versace hotel manager himself!

As a leukemia survivor, the hotel manager Russell understands fully the importance of these kinds of events. Blood cancers can affect anyone at any time – sadly, today 31 Australians will find out they have leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma or another related blood disorder.

The World’s Greatest Shave is dedicated to helping those affected by this disease by raising funds for both physical and emotional support as well as investing in research to find cures.

With so many wonderful cancer charity events, I’ll probably end up regularly wearing pink and having no hair – and that’s okay!

If you want to be involved in the World’s Greatest Shave it’s not too late. Visit the official website to sponsor a shaver or to find an event near you – and don’t forget to slip, slop, slap if you decide to shave!
