REZUM
Overview
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), or enlarged prostate, is a common condition affecting more than half of men over the age of 60. It can cause a range of urinary symptoms including a weak stream, frequent urination, especially at night, and incomplete bladder emptying. For decades, treatment options have included medications or surgical procedures such as TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate), but these often come with side effects or the need for long-term therapy.
Rezum is a minimally invasive, water vapour therapy that offers a revolutionary alternative for men seeking symptom relief without the need for ongoing medications or major surgery. Approved by health authorities worldwide and available at The Prostate Clinic, Gold Coast, Rezum provides lasting relief from BPH symptoms using the natural energy stored in steam.
The treatment is performed as a day procedure, usually under local anaesthetic or light sedation, and typically takes no more than 15 – 30 minutes. During the procedure, small amounts of steam are injected directly into the prostate tissue through a specially designed device inserted via the urethra. The steam causes the prostate cells to die off, which the body then reabsorbs over time. As the extra tissue shrinks, pressure on the urethra is relieved and symptoms improve.
Rezum therapy has been shown to significantly reduce urinary symptoms, improve quality of life, and preserve sexual and urinary continence. For many men, it offers a safe, effective, and quick return to normal activities.
At The Prostate Clinic, Rezum is typically offered to men with moderate to severe BPH who want to avoid the side effects of medication or are not ready to undergo surgery. It can also be a great option for men who are not suitable candidates for general anaesthetic.
If you are struggling with urinary symptoms related to BPH, we invite you to contact us by phone or email to arrange an appointment and discuss whether Rezum therapy may be appropriate for you.
