What is a radical prostatectomy?

This is a surgical procedure performed to treat prostate cancer. It involves the removal of the prostate together with the seminal vesicles. The bladder is then anastomosed or joined onto the urethra. The operation is performed in different ways. These include robotically, laparoscopically, open or via the perineum. The majority of radical prostatectomies are now performed robotically. At the prostate clinic all radical prostatectomies are performed robotically.
