There are several characteristics which are examined on a mri. These various characteristics are combined together to assign a relative risk of prostate cancer being present in a particular prostate. Spots or shadows on the mri are classified according to a scale known as the Pirad system. The ranges from 1-5, with 1 being a normal scan and 5 being highly consistent with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Pirad 4-5 lesions will be biopsied by your urologist. The management of 2 and 3 lesions can usually be monitored but the exact management will depend on the individual circumstances.
